Section 5 of the Gender Equality Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (LGG NRW) stipulates the obligation of higher education institutions to issue a gender equality plan or development plan (formerly: women's advancement plan) for a time frame of three to five years in each case. Within the University of Cologne, this consists of a framework plan for gender equality, which applies to the entire university, as well as the development plans for equality and diversity of the Faculties, the central institutions and the administration.

In accordance with Section 5 subsection 2 LGG NRW, the Senate decides on the Gender Equality Plan.

The University of Cologne first issued a Gender Equality Plan in 2000, consisting of the above-mentioned development plans, for the period 2001-2003. Since then, the Equality Plans have been continuously updated and adopted by the Senate. 

For the period 2020-2024, the development plans were adopted by the Senate on 10 June 2020. You can access the current plans (only available in German) in the column on the right. For detailed questions, please contact the respective institution.
